Draksum La-tso or Basum Tso is 270 kms east of Lhasa and is located in the heart of scenic Kongpo, a heavily forested region unlike the barren landscape of much of Tibet. Draksum La-tso is considered to be the soul-lake of king Gesar. The area around Draksum La-tso abounds with secret caves and hermitages connected with Guru Rinpoche. Sangay Lingpa, the renowned 14th century Nyingmapa lama founded the idllic Tsosum Monastery on an island in the lake.
