DRUK PATH TREK

Day 01: Depending on your arrival time, you may have time to walk around Paro and savor the feeling of a country that seems to be existing in an earlier century. From the dress of the people to the consistency in the traditional architecture, you know you are in a different kind of place that exists anywhere else on earth. Overnight at a local lodge or hotel.

Day 02: Morning visit to Ta Dzong, built in 17th century, as watch tower to defend Paro Dzong and valey. This fortress was later converted into the National Museum in 1968 and is filled with antique thangkha paintings, textiles, weapons and Bhutan’s renowned postage stamps. Below the Ta Dzong, is fascinating Rinpung Dzong meaning ‘fortress of the heap of jewels’, which has a long and interesting history.

Aftrnoon see, Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines of Bhutan.

Day 03: For better acclimatization we hike up to Taktsang monastery (3000m). The hike takes about 3 hrs and overlooks the Paro valley. You have the evening to yourself.

Day 04: Trek starts. Paro- Jangchulakha 16 kms. 7 to 8 hours. The trek trail is gradual and if the weather is clear the Paro valley can be seen.

Day 05: Jangchulakha - Simkota 17 kms. 7 to 8 hours The trail takes you through thick alpine forests and rhododendron trees. The yaks in winter graze in the pastures around the path and there may be some yaks and yak herders around the campsite.

Day 06: Simulate - Phajoding 12 kms 4 to 5 hours walk. The trek begins with a gradual climb and if weather permits one will get a beautiful view of Mount Gangkhar Punsum, the highest mountain in Bhutan and other Himalayan mountains from Doupchula Pass. The path gradually descends till Phajoding, where the monastery and the retreat centers for meditation are located. Overnight in camp.

Day 07: Phajoding - Thimphu 09 kms 3 to 4 hours walk. The trail to Thimphu goes down hill through the blue pine forests. It takes about 3 -4 hours to reach Thimphu. Evening at leisure

Day 08: Thimphu sightseeing. Visit National Library, School of Thangka Painting, Institute of Traditional Medicine and the Memorial Chorten. Afternoon, visit the Handicraft Emporium.

Day 09: Drive 4 hrs to wangdiphodrang via Punakha. Today begins the return trip and we do it in style using a four-wheel drive.

Day 10: Drive 5 hrs to Paro.

Day 10: Farewell and transfers to the airport.
